“‘They Have Become Me’: Lucie Brock-Broido & Lucy Grealy”
“‘They Have Become Me’: Lucie Brock-Broido & Lucy Grealy” continues my study of the ubiquity of the split or doubled-self in the poetry of Lucie Brock-Broido, which I first wrote about for Annulet, the Pittsburgh Review of Books, and Little Mirror. This work considers the compulsive undertones of the doubled-self vis-à-vis Brock-Broido’s friendship with the late memoirist Lucy Grealy, to whom Brock-Broido dedicated her third collection, Trouble In Mind.
Margaret Saigh is the author of several chapbooks, most recently I’ve Created A Thing That Will Never Bring Me Pleasure (Pitymilk, 2025), and the creator of circlet, a poetry workshop and reading series. Her writing has been published widely in print and across the Internet. She received an MFA from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently writing a book about the life and work of the poet Lucie Brock-Broido.
